Role Overview
As an Avionics System Engineer, reporting to the Director of Space Programmes, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the avionics and software systems for ALATYR’s space platforms. Your work will play a critical role in enabling the success of ALATYR’s biotech research and manufacturing facilities in space. This role requires hands-on prototyping skills, an innovative mindset, and a strong interest in avionics and robotics.
Key Responsibilities
System Design and Architecture: Lead the design and development of avionics and software architecture, ensuring compliance with system requirements and customer needs.
Prototyping and Manufacturing: Drive the prototyping and iterative development of systems, from concept to prototyping and manufacturing for in-orbit deployment.
Procurement: Select and procure avionics components meeting space-specific constraints (e.g., radiation, vacuum) and regulations (e.g., ECSS), optimizing for cost and development timelines.
Hands-on Engineering: Collaborate with R&D and scientific teams to solve technical challenges and develop innovative systems for space-based bioproduction.
Innovation: Continuously explore and integrate cutting-edge technologies to optimize avionics systems and workflows.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with biologists and engineers to ensure seamless integration of avionics system with ALATYR’s programs.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Engineering, ideally with a focus on electrical, software, or aerospace systems engineering.
Experience: Experience in developing and implementing avionics and software for small satellites or CubeSat platforms, including familiarity with avionics protocols and space standards (e.g., CCSDS, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, CAN, Ethernet). ESA/NASA compliance and qualification experience with flight-proven systems preferred. Prior experience in developing CubeSat platforms, space payloads, or robotic systems is highly valued.

- Proficiency in automation, electronics, and software development.
- Expertise in systems engineering, including requirements analysis, system modeling, and validation.
- Prototyping and testing for space environments (e.g., radiation, vacuum, thermal).
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a creative and resourceful mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary and international environment (fluent English).
- Enthusiastic about robotics, biology, and space exploration, with a passion for innovation.
